SPOTLIGHT ON KIM KAMIN

In addition to serving as the chief wealth strategist at Gresham Partners in Chicago, IL, Kim is an adjunct professor at the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law and on the faculty of The University of Chicago Booth School of Business Executive Education. She serves more than 120 ultra-high net worth families by partnering with them to develop and implement wealth transfer, philanthropic endeavors, education, and fiduciary planning.

In reference to her favorite client moments, Kim said, “what each event shares in common are the deep and enriching connections, the bond I witness between our clients and us, and how exciting and heartwarming it is to watch our clients become friends with each other. Memories are comprised of moments. And the composite of moments I have enjoyed with our clients is incredibly meaningful and special to me.”

“I feel particularly fulfilled working with individual clients over time, helping them determine how their estate plans should be structured for the wealth to ultimately maximize the flourishing of their families and achieve their philanthropic goals. It is tremendously rewarding to facilitate discussions that result in clients leaving legacies that align with their values and create measurable impact. Collaborating with their attorneys and other professionals to reach the best result for the client is also gratifying. Overall, as an educator, it is a great privilege to guide clients in documenting what matters most in ways that can positively impact future generations."

In addition to her great work and perspective on multigenerational wealth planning, she is a wife and mother of a rising college freshman.

Preparing Wealth or Preparing Heirs to Build Legacy

What do we recall about the legacy of the Vanderbilts or the Hearst family? Most of us remember that their wealth and family connections eventually faded away.

As a society, we have dedicated decades to legal efforts aimed at safeguarding wealth from being wasted by future generations. This approach has seen moderate success. While wealth remains intact, what is happening to the families involved?

Instead, envision a scenario where heirs are being prepared for the wealth they are meant to manage. The shift towards focusing on preparing individuals rather than building legal structure around the money is both evolving and can be transformative. By preparing individuals, we foster an atmosphere of trust, accountability, shared objectives, and, most crucially, freedom for the heirs. Freedom from the anxiety of “doing it wrong,” freedom from uncertainty, and freedom from complacency. Preparation is empowerment. AND it lays the groundwork for legacy, remembrance, and enduring influence.

Multigenerational Wealth - What and Why

Multigenerational Wealth – define it, reimagine it, and establish a supportive environment for sustained growth.

What is meant by multigenerational wealth? It is wealth that is abundant enough to persist beyond the generation that created it and the generation responsible for its expansion.

What do we refer to as "Wealth?" Wealth is more than just financial assets; it’s well-being.

We aim to nurture, cultivate, and grow multigenerational wealth in a healthy, sustainable way. This vision inspired us to host the first Multigenerational Wealth Conference, and we are thrilled to invite you to the second annual Multigenerational Wealth Conference this October in sunny Orlando, Florida.

We are bringing together affluent, multigenerational families and the professionals who serve them in a shared learning environment. Using plenary sessions, everyone engages in the same high-level conversations, insights, and breakthroughs.

The conference has several objectives, including providing affluent, multigenerational families like yours and the professionals who work with you with:

  • Actionable governance frameworks: Models for managing trusts, leadership transitions, and family council dynamics.

  • Resilient legacy planning tools: Approaches that help your enterprise navigate challenges—whether economic, generational, or behavioral.

  • Networking for impact: Connect with families and professionals who share your aspirations and commitments.

  • Forward-vision mindset: Crafted to motivate active value definition—not just wealth preservation—to establish successful following generations.

The speaker lineup features leading voices and rising stars in family wealth, governance, legacy, and philanthropy.

We hope you will join us annually for the conference. Our mission is to empower families and professionals to align your family's purpose with your legacy.
